When it's dark and cold in Sweden...Lucia brings a little light

All right, since this is an entirely new experience for me and I'm not good at remembering facts about traditions, I've decided to bring some facts I found on Wikipedia and accompany the rest with pictures from my very own experience from Klosters kyrka, Eskilstuna. I really liked the jolly atmosphere of this event with candle lights and singing. Hope you can feel from the pictures, too:)
So here are some facts (source: Wikipedia):

'In Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, Lucy (called Lucia) is venerated on December 13 in a ceremony where a girl is elected to portray Lucia. Wearing a white gown with a red sash and a crown of candles on her head, she walks at the head of a procession of women, each holding a candle. The candles symbolize the fire that refused to take St. Lucy's life when she was sentenced to be burned. The women sing a Lucia song while entering the room, to the melody of the traditional Neapolitan song Santa Lucia; the Italian lyrics describe the view from Santa Lucia in Naples, the various Scandinavian lyrics are fashioned for the occasion, describing the light with which Lucia overcomes the darkness. Each Scandinavian country has lyrics in their native tongues. After finishing this song, the procession sings Christmas carols or more songs about Lucia.

And now the pictures:

Lights of Stockholm

There is no better time to visit Stockholm than now, in times of upcoming Christmas. All the lights in the city, Christmas decorations in shopping windows, shining mooses at Sergels torg (called 'Plattan'), skating rink in Kungsträdgården, warm glögg, musicians singing and playing carrols....it all makes the right advent atmosphere. Besides, if you are not into all the Christmas madness, you can 'hide' in narrow streets of Gamla stan (Old town), absorbing the atmosphere of old Stockholm and imagining how it was back then..in some ways it reminds me Prague, another magic city with many narrow streets.
In any case, Stockholm has already become my favourite city; I feel there is a lot to explore yet. Right now prepare to se a lot of pictures (me included:)!

Riddarhuset - House of Nobility is a palace built in 1641-1674  owned and managed by the Swedish knighthood and nobility. The latter organizes guided tours and concerts for the public, and the building is also used by members for private parties.

My favourite picture - one of the streets of Gamla stan, two musicians playing a flute and this lady dancing slowly like time didn't matter..For a few seconds I wish I could take this scene back to 15.-16. century..
